Bio

Name: Otonashi Saya

Age: 18; chronologically around 175

Bio: Saya was born in the year 1833 along with her sister Diva. She was raised properly in The Zoo by Joel Goldschmit, while Diva had been confined to one of the towers. There she met Haji, who became a true friend to her over time; eventually, she unknowingly made Haji her Chevalier in an attempt to save his life when an accident nearly killed him. While searching the grounds one day, she heard Diva's song and enjoyed it. The day they first talked with each other, Saya officially gave Diva her name. On the day of Joel's birthday, Saya released Diva although she didn't know why Diva had been imprisoned. Diva slaughtered everyone at the mansion; since that day Saya blames herself for the tragedy that took place while vowing to put an end to Diva.

Saya and Haji's world travels took them to Russia where they were confronted by one of Diva's own Chevaliers disguised as a young girl; after an intense battle, Saya felt very tired and went into her 30 year hibernation period. Over 100 years later, Saya awoke during the 21st Century but had no memories of her past due to the fact that she'd been forcibly awakened during the Vietnam War by the organization known as the Red Shield; sadly, she went on a rampage that day-killing soldiers and innocents until she'd been stopped and went back to sleep once again. Saya had been content a year after she woke up in Okinawa as a normal high school girl with her brothers Kai, Riku and father George. (George had been there during the Vietnam War and watched over Saya during her period of sleep, wondering when she would wake up.) The day a Chiropteran invaded her school shattered her peaceful life; Saya being reintroduced to Haji, officially introduced to David who worked for the Red Shield and finding out that it was her mission to kill Chiropterans; her blood was the only thing that would kill them and as a result, she needed blood transfusions periodically. Initially, she wasn't sure if she could deal with a life like this but it was with the support of her father-before his tragic death-and adopted family that she found the strength within herself to carry out the mission.

Saya's time with the Red Shield wasn't always eventful, though she and her family did get to travel around the world. Her travels took her back to Vietnam, where she infiltrated a boarding school and became friends with her roommate before having to part ways the night of the annual Ball. It was between her travels to Ekaterinburg and return to The Zoo that Saya discovered the full truth about herself: That she wasn't human. Like her sister Diva, Saya was a Chiropteran.

Feeling betrayed by the Red Shield, Saya and Haji made their way back to The Zoo and bits and pieces of her memory came back to her along the way. It was at The Zoo that Saya not only confronted The Schiff-who were soldiers that had been created with Diva's blood-but was reunited with her sister Diva, who had drank a substantial amount of Riku's blood. (Riku, Kai and the Red Shield had tracked her down in the hopes that she would return to the fold.) In order to save Riku's life, Saya gave him her blood which made Riku her second Chevalier.

Saya's travels took them to Paris, and it was there that Saya finally regained her full memories about what took place in 1833 and the Vietnam War; unfortunately, the Red Shield would suffer devastating attacks while they remained in Paris-not only from The Schiff, who believed that Saya's blood could save them from a disease that they suffered called The Thorn, but from Diva herself, who raped and killed Riku during a planned attack on the Red Shield. A year passed since then, and Saya finally came to accept her mission to kill Diva, but no longer wanted to grieve for the lives of those who had been lost or put those she cared about in harm's way anymore; upon her return, she was cold and unemotional toward everyone for a time, including Kai. Eventually Saya learned that she didn't have to put up walls around herself and that the battle against Diva didn't have to be just hers to fight alone; no matter where they were at, her family and friends would support her in this endeavor.

The final confrontation with Diva took place in New York City's Metropolitan Opera House. Saya and Haji infiltrated the building and soon enough, it became a battlefield. Sister battled against sister as Saya and Diva fought each other, both determined to end the battle once and for all. The climax came when both Saya and Diva stabbed each other, both of their swords coated with their blood. While Diva began to crystallize, Saya remained alive because Diva's blood had lost it's potency due to being pregnant with Riku's children. Kai begged Saya to stay alive following this final encounter, which prompted her and Haji to reveal how they felt about each other and it meant that Saya couldn't fulfill her promise: that when Diva died, Saya was to die with her.

Upon returning to Okinawa with Kai and her two nieces, Saya went back to sleep once again and after a few years had passed, Kai visited Saya's crypt with the girls at his side; his love and kindness had kept them from following their mother's path. Haji had been there as well, his only piece of evidence having been there in the form of a pink rose with his blue ribbon tied to it.

Though, when Saya finally does wake up again, it wouldn't be in Okinawa...

Personality: Originally, Saya's personality was like that of a 'spoiled' rich person, believing that everyone should be her friend and is displeased when they aren't. Evidence to support this is shown when Saya once explained to Haji that '...None of the silly animals want to be my friend!' (That in part was because she was a Chiropteran and the animals had sensed Saya was different from humans.) It was because of Haji's initial disliking of her when he came to The Zoo that caused Saya to change her attitude for the better. She became caring, and more considerate of others' feelings than she would've before.

Saya gets angry when the people she cares about are in danger, and will do whatever it takes to protect them at the cost of her own life. Like Diva, Saya's eyes change color when she goes into battle; whereas Diva's eyes change blue, Saya's eyes change a crimson red. Saya has cried a few times in her life-once, when she found out that the mansion had been burned and everyone had been killed; when George-and Irene of the Schiff-died by her own hand, though Irene's was unintentional and Saya had been trying to save her; when she had been forced to leave her only friend at the boarding school the night of the annual Ball; and when Riku died at Diva's hands.
